Strengths and Opportunities:

Brecksville must maintain balance by maximizing tax revenue through development on the south-end of the city without losing our small-town feel, providing modern amenities in a park-like setting, and enhancing public spaces while minimizing traffic.

The city must continue to make all modes of transportation safer, and expand neighborhood connections to schools, parks, downtown and the business areas in the south end.

Brecksville must continue and expand its strong working relationship with the BBH School District. The schools draw residents and anchor them to our city. Like Brecksville, they are top-notch. Residents of all ages benefit by having a high ranking school district in the community.

Our community gardens and recycling program are great. We should expand our environmental program offerings to residents. Brecksville has made great progress in flood prevention. This information should be shared with residents as should future goals. Citizens can also become part of the solution with information campaigns and local workshops.

Communication between the city and residents must be enhanced. The City webpage must be reworked to make information more easily accessible. Communication should be both reactive and proactive.

We must maintain fiscal integrity, maximize tax dollars, increase citizen involvement in the decision-making process and keep top notch safety and services.

Brecksville Matters

Big Spaces
Big Impacts

IMG_9901.jpg

There are several areas in town either currently undergoing change or where change is coming. Thoughtful planning will provide an optimum mix of residential, business and recreational amenities, career opportunities, new housing and a very robust income tax base. These spaces provide opportunities for positive transformational change.

Valor Acres contains several large projects within one site. These projects impact surrounding properties, traffic and residents. The same may be said for the Central School property. Voters will determine the uses they see fit for this prime piece of downtown land on the next ballot. Care must be taken to create a plan for these areas in their entirety. These reimagined spaces need to compliment their surroundings.

Another space which presents a great opportunity for residents is Blossom Hill. Improvements to Blossom Hill include a new multipurpose trail that connects the Metroparks Parkway to Oakes Road, the new elementary school and finally to Route 82 via the newly installed sidewalks and bike lanes on Glenwood Trail. A Safe Routes to School Grant was also awarded for additional connectivity on the Blossom Property.

Now is a perfect time to create a masterplan vision for the rest of the Blossom Hill campus. It is also a perfect time to discuss ways to connect the nearby residences to Blossom. Several neighborhoods in the area already have sidewalks. Connecting these areas to each other and Blossom Hill is a logical step. This would also connect these neighborhoods Valor Acres and existing sidewalks along Route 21.

Kids Quarters, the playground area near the Community Center, will also welcome a vast makeover, partially thanks to grants awarded to the city. Please make your voices heard as to what you imagine this space to be. With input from residents the city will be able to create space that will serve the youngest of our residents for years to come.

Planning of these spaces must continue with measured and deliberate care to provide more opportunities for all residents and to ensure Brecksville remains one of the most desirable cities in our area.
